Hey there! Wondering how to install MTZ themes on your Xiaomi phone? Today, I’ll show you a simple way to do it on both HyperOS and MIUI devices.
After the MIUI 11 update, the Mi theme store stopped supporting MTZ themes. But, many designers share beta versions that you can still use. I’ll show you a way to install any MTZ theme on your Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO devices, no matter the MIUI or HyperOS version.
What are MTZ Themes?
MTZ themes are files for custom themes and fonts on Xiaomi devices, working only with Xiaomi operating systems. They let you personalize your device with unique looks and apply HyperOS themes without waiting for official updates.
How to Install MTZ Themes
Some users face a problem where custom themes get removed after a few hours. But with this method, you can keep your MTZ theme permanently.
Note: Before we dive into the process, make sure you download some required files. You’ll find the download links at the end of this article.
Part 1: Clone Mi Themes
- Install the “App Cloner” app on your phone and open it.
- Tap on “APK Files” and then the “+” icon.
- Choose the “From a file” option and select the “Mi Themes V3.9.2.2” apk from your download folder.
- Wait for the app to install. Afterward, go to “Cloning Options” in the dashboard.
- Activate “Cloning Mode” and select the “Manifest” option.
- Turn on “Ignore Crashes” and confirm by tapping “OK.”
- From the menu, enable the “No Kill” option and set it to “Enabled.”
- Once you’ve completed these steps, tap the blue “Clone” icon.
- Wait for the process to complete. When a pop-up appears, tap on “Install App.”
Part 2: Clear Cache of Themes
After you finish cloning, you’ll see two theme applications on your device: the official one and the cloned version. Follow these steps with the official Mi Themes app:
- Open the Settings app on your device.
- Tap on “Apps” and then “Manage Apps.”
- Find out “Themes” and tap on it.
- Select both “Force Stop” and “Clear Data” to clear all cache.
Note: Clearing the app’s cache will remove all themes you previously downloaded.
Part 3: Apply MTZ Themes
- Open the cloned Mi Theme Store on your device.
- Navigate to “My Account,” then go to “Themes.”
- At the bottom of the app, select the “Import” option.
- Pick the MTZ theme you want to apply to your device.
Remember to carefully follow Part 4 to permanently apply MTZ themes. If not done correctly, your theme may revert to the default one after a few hours.
Part 4: Remove Theme Manager Folders
- Download and open Solid File Explorer or any file manager from the Play Store that allows access to your device’s internal Android folders.
- In the file explorer, follow this path: Internal Memory > Android > Data. Look for folders named “Theme Manager.”
- Long press on the folder named “com.android.thememanager” and then tap “Delete” from the options that appear.
- Next, find a folder named “com.android.thememanages.” Rename this folder to “com.android.thememanager” and confirm by tapping “Ok.”
Note: It’s crucial to follow these steps carefully and rename the folder accurately. Any spelling errors can prevent your theme from being applied correctly.
Part 5: Apply MTZ Themes
- Open the official Mi Theme app on your device (not the cloned version).
- Navigate to “Profile” and then to “Theme.”
- Select your new MTZ theme.
- Press the “Apply” button.
Done! Your new MTZ theme should now be successfully applied to your phone.

Conclusion
This process can be quite complex and time-consuming due to the various settings adjustments required. By following these steps, you can successfully install new themes directly from designers and experiment with custom fonts and themes not available in the Theme store.
However, be aware of potential challenges:
- With the Android 13 update, many smartphones restrict access to system folders. You’ll need a best file manager that allows access to all files.
- There’s a risk of making mistakes while renaming folders, so be extra careful.
- After recent HyperOS updates, some MIUI themes may not be compatible with the new version, and popular themes might be removed from the server, leading to errors like “Server error” or “Unfortunately, our server is down at the moment.” In such cases, contact the official theme developer for a newer version.
Doesn’t work. When installing the cloned APK it refuses saying cannot downgrade.
